Gleaves Family

Thanks to June Moore Novick who writes: "My connection to the Gleaves family is through Absalom and Catharine (Halsey) Gleaves. I visited Wytheville/Cripple Creek a few months ago and took pictures of every tombstone in the cemetery. I also have a picture of Absalom and Catharine's Memorial which was taken in Tennessee. ... Using Mary Kegley's info and documentation, along with another cousins and my research in Wytheville, I am now certain that Catharine (Halsey) Gleaves was the daughter of James and Sarah (Hildreth) Halsey. James' father was probably Sylvanus Halsey even though the old Halsey book has my James marrying an Ingram in 1797. That Ingram marriage seems to be from a later generation and their sons were given names that don't fit into the traditional pattern of the Halseys of New York and Wytheville, Virginia."
